Traditionally homeowners purchased unfinished floors so that their installer could custom stain their floors to exactly match the cabinets or other features in their home. In these situations, there are several steps in the installation process. First the floor must be physically nailed, when the boards are 5 inches or wider, glued to the sub floor. Next the floor must be either machine sanded or hand scraped or distressed. The third step is to stain the floor the appropriate color. After the stain has dried, the first coat of urethane will be applied. To achieve the best results, 2 or more additional coats of urethane will be applied on subsequent days.
When building a new house the above process can stretch over several weeks or months. When remodeling or installing a floor in an existing house, depending on size, the process can still take at least 4 days. Sanding a floor is inherently a dusty process that can be difficult to clean up. Since the flooring stains and finishes often have a strong odor, it is difficult to occupy the residence during this process.
One of the advantages of pre-finished flooring is that installation is a one-step process, the boards are simply nailed and, when the boards are 5 inches or wider, glued to the sub-floor. Also, a factory-applied U. V. cured Urethane is tougher and more durable than any surface coating that can be applied at a job site.

Villagio Madera’s pre-finished floors use a Ceramic U. V. cured urethane that with normal use can provide years of wear. The finish is applied using state of the art vacuum technology so that the stain and U.V. cured urethane reaches the crevasse and indentations that give a hand scrapped Tuscan Character Floor its beauty.
